Aged 22

 

Occupation. - A Gardener. Son of Mr. Kenneth MacRae, Shoemaker, Argyle Street, Ullapool.

 

Enlisted in the 2nd Seaforths 20th Mar. 1916.
Transferred in France to the 7th Bn. -
Killed at Blagny, near Arras 9th April 1917.

 

Had one brother serving -

  • Alexander MacRae, 6th Seaforths.

 

Extract from letter written by his Coy. Commander:- “As a soldier, he was a splendid man, one whose place will not be easily filled. He was a very popular man in the Company, and his loss will be felt keenly by us all.”

He is also commemorated locally on a family grave in Clachan, Locbhroom:

“ALSO OUR DEAR BROTHERS
PTE KENNETH MACRAE
7TH SEAFORTH HRS.
KILLED IN ACTION
9TH APRIL 1917
AGED 22 YEARS”

 

 

Family information

Pte Kenneth MacRae is the great uncle of Sonya and Glenn of Childers, Ladysmith Street Ullapool.
