8th / 9th Bn. Seaforth Highlanders.

Aged 25

 

A Ploughman. Son of Mrs. Elizabeth Macrae, Loggie Lochbroom.

 

Joined the Army at Nairn April, 1915.
Was wounded three times and twice gassed -
Died of wounds in a Hospital in England 11th Nov. 1918.
Was buried in the Cemetery of the Old Parish Church in Lochbroom.

The official records put his age at 20 and not 25 as stated above.

Alexander Macrae was Angus’ young cousin and grew up in the same croft house at Loggie, being the son of Elizabeth Macrae, another sister of Donald. Alexander enlisted in the 8th Seaforths. He was wounded three times and gassed twice and died at no.3 Northern General Hospital in Sheffield. He was aged 25 and died on 11th November 1918, the day the war ended. His uncle Duncan travelled to Sheffield to bring him back to be buried at Clachan.

The connection with the Parish today is not known.
